Oberstdorf - Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze
The ski flying hill in Oberstdorf is one of those with an impressive and touching history.
At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz the Germans were not allowed to participate. So three athletes, Sepp Weiler, Heini Klopfer and Toni Brutscher, decided to built a ski flying hill in Oberstdorf. The project was approved in 1949 and by March 1950 they were hosting competitions with about 100,000 spectators.
The inrun was wooden and therefore not very safe, so by 1973, when they were hosting the first WSC, they remodeled the jump and used lightweight concrete instead of wood. In time, it has been remodeled again and again, the last time in 2008 when itbecame a K 185 HS 213.
The hill record was set by Harri Olli (FIN) in 14.02.2009 with 225.5 m.
