Simon Ammann
Simon Ammann (SUI) is currently on the second place in the WC standings. After fighting Andreas Kofler (AUT) for this spot, he seems to have taken a lead and is very motivated.
His career is quite fantastic. Born on 25th June 1981, he entered the World Cup in 1997, at the age of 16. He is registered under the FIS code 2067 at SSC Toggenburg. After winning two gold medals in the 2002 Winter...

Willingen - Muhlenkopfschanze
I couldn’t find in my sources the year it was built or a lot about the history of this hill. so pretty much all i know is that it’s a K 130, HS 145 hill, which makes it the largest Large Hill in the world, that in 2000 it was modernized and a new tower, called Adlerhorst, was built and it has a warm-up room and that the hill record belongs to Janne Ahonen in 09.01.2005, who reached...

Zakopane - 23.01.11
Definitely not a good day for science. Or jumping. The heavy snowfall in the first round affected a lot of jumps, and Adam Malysz (POL) suffered an accident. We don’t know yet how bad, after the fall he could get up, but the announcer stated that there was nothing broken.
The great surprise was Kamil Stoch (POL), who had his first WC win today. 254.0 points and 123.0 m and...

Women's ski jumping
I came across this article today and for the past weeks i have noticed it is an issue in the press. I am not familiar with the situation, and i must admit i have never seen a competition.
Being the last Olympic sport that is men only does raise some questions, but is it really a sexist matter, or is there a stronger reason behind this?

Zakopane - 21.01.11
It wasn’t really a surprize to see Adam Malysz (POL) win the first competition in Zakopane. It was a good reward for all the many fans that were there. So, we had Adam Malysz (POL) on the first place with 269.9 points, 138.5 m and 128.5 m jumps. Right behind him was Andreas Kofler (AUT), who is carefully guarding his second place in the WC, with 264.5 points, 127.5 m and...

Husebyrennet
or the jumping before ski-jumping. It was held in Ullern, Oslo starting with 1879 until 1890, when it was moved elsewhere due to uncertain weather conditions. What they did there is extremely different from today’s ski-jumping. The jump itself was part of a 4 km stretch of cross country skiing, the length of the jumps was not measured and the judges would give point from 1 to 5 for...

I’m gonna go with something old and something new here and after presenting the first ski jumper, I’m gonna say a few things about this year’s superhero, Thomas Morgenstern (AUT). Sapporo - Okurayama Hill
Okurayama hill dates back to 1931, but the hill as we know it now was built in 1969 to be able to host the 1972 Winter Olympics ski-jumping competitions. Since then it has suffered other size and quality changes, and today we have a K-point 120 m and HS 134 m. In 1998 it was remodeled to include a summer hill and in 2007 it was modernized. More about Okurayama here.
The hill record was...
